The time to act on the Schools and Libraries Program, commonly referred to as the E-rate Program
, is almost here. The E-rate window for application filing opens February 3rd at noon EST. It will be open through April 29th at 11:59:59 PM EDT—a total of 87 days—which gives you about two weeks more than usual to take advantage of this program for your school or library.
The E-rate federal program provides schools a discounted rate on internet connectivity
and associated upgrades. Depending on economic and rural/urban status, the discounts range between 20% and 90%.
Students, teachers, and library patrons would benefit greatly from establishing or upgrading internet connectivity. This program allows service providers like Access Technologies to place the power of the internet into the hands of many, some of them for the first time.
There is a 28-day waiting period for the bidding process after submitting the first application, so the sooner you begin, the sooner your school or library can reap the rewards. You can see a flow chart of the application process here
, and read about getting started in the E-rate Program here
encourages you to apply for these advantageous improvements, and looks forward to providing your institution(s) with wireless and Wi-Fi connectivity.
